Browns Fire Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown

The Cleveland Browns hired Dorsey on Thursday to be their new general manager and fix a team that has won just one game over the past two seasons and remains in a perpetual search for a franchise quarterback.

It didn't take long after Sashi Brown was formally relieved of his duties as executive vice president of football operations for John Dorsey's name to surface as a leading candidate to replace Brown.

He also drafted Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 draft, and Mahomes is well-documented as the quarterback Browns coach Hue Jackson wanted. We're going to look at free agency and the draft.

Haslam said it's unfair to blame Jackson for that record, as the entire franchise - Haslam included - bears blame for it.

"We are thrilled to have John Dorsey lead our football operations", the Haslams said.

The Browns have passed on opportunities to draft Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson in successive drafts.

Along with losing, the Browns have been consistent in front-office and coaching shake-ups.

Sashi Brown was promoted to executive VP /Gm after the firing of Ray Farmer. It's also extremely self-serving to submit that Jackson, Cleveland's play-caller, knew in advance that his team would have trouble putting points up on the board.

There have been multiple reports that the Browns did satisfy the requirements of the rule.

It's not yet clear if Haslam plans to retain chief strategist Paul DePodesta and player personnel director Andrew Berry.

From his perspective, doing so would make more sense if the Browns opt against affording him influence when it comes to tweaking the roster this offseason. We witnessed this with the botched trade of AJ McCarron from Cincinnati who many believe was Brown's undermining of the decision to acquire the backup quarterback.

The Browns host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
