AAA Mid-Atlantic: Christmas holiday travel volume to set all-time record

Gas prices in Florida have continued to decline and are now below what they were before Hurricane Harvey caused prices to surge in late August, according to AAA.

In Rhode Island, gas prices are 12 percent higher this year than they were last year when the average price of gas was $2.24 per gallon.

By Christmas, prices in Florida should be on par with what they were a year ago - $2.32 - if they continue falling at a rate of about a penny a day, Jenkins said.

Arizona, AZ, December 18- Average retail gasoline prices in Arizona have fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.41/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,269 gas outlets in Arizona.

"Gulf Coast refineries have completely recovered from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, and are now flooding the market with fuel in anticipation of strong demand during the year-end holidays", said Mark Jenkins, spokesman at AAA in Tampa.

"AAA forecasts a record-setting 97.4 million Americans will take a road trip during the final 10 days of the year". Florida gas prices are 13 cents less than a month ago, but 6 cents more than this time past year, AAA reported. Lawrenceville gas prices range from $2.04- $2.13.

State of Tennessee- $2.18, down 3.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.22. Across the nation, on Sunday, gas prices averaged $2.43 per gallon, down from $2.47 the week before.

"We attribute this to the reasonable gas prices". Petersburg-Clearwater and Jacksonville regions.

Drivers can expect pump prices to continue to drop heading into the holiday season as supply strengthens and fall gasoline demand weakens.
