Police Search For Man Involved In Christmas Day Armed Robberies

The suspect first walked into the Family Dollar in the 14300 block of Harper near Chalmers and demanded money from the cashier around 10:30 a.m.

The woman is described as heavy set, white or Hispanic, wearing a gray hat with the Jordan symbol on it, gray sweatpants, gray sweatshirt and a black jacket.

A 29-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, but police have not yet released his name because of the ongoing investigation, which is expected to yield more arrests, city police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said. Police believe the two robberies are connected.

The robbery was reported shortly after 12:45 p.m.at a gas station on the 600 block of South 14th Street on December 28. The area is behind the parking lot for the East Carolina Police Department. "The second victim activated the panic alarm, as the suspect left the establishment on foot with approximately $100".

Police describe the gunmen as a thin black man and a heavy set Hispanic man, both wearing muddy construction boots, dark blue trousers, gray hooded sweatshirts and masks.

An armed robbery took place early Thursday morning at a Circle K along Britton Road and Broadway Extension.
