Texans Coach Bill O'Brien, GM Rick Smith Reportedly Have 'Toxic' Relationship

There had been considerable speculation the Texans would fire O'Brien and choose general manager Rick Smith in an apparent power struggle a Houston Chronicle report called "toxic". Despite finding their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson and making the playoffs twice since 2015, the Texans could be in the market for a new general manager or coach after their 4-11 season wraps up on Sunday.

"I am eternally grateful to the McNair family for their unwavering support during this time. I remain committed to our quest to bring a championship to the city of Houston, yet my family needs me now and they are my priority". He determined that his wife and three children now need him the most.

Smith made the announcement in a statement less than an hour after the Texans finished their season with a 22-13 loss Sunday at Indianapolis.

"We have a bond here with the coaching staff and the players and maybe it's because of all the things that we kind of had to deal with this year", O'Brien said earlier this week.
