Letterman Netflix series gets Obama as first guest: See trailer

US President Barack Obama tapes an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, May 4, 2015.

Netflix has provided its first glimpse at David Letterman's forthcoming talk show titled My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. In interviews that take place both inside and outside a studio setting, the conversations are intimate, in-depth and far-reaching.

Actor George Clooney, Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, actress Tina Fey, shock jock Howard Stern and rap superstar Jay-Z complete the lineup.

"My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" marks Letterman's return to the hosting seat following his long run hosting "The Late Show,".

The show will launch Friday, Jan. 12 and a new episode will be stream each subsequent month in 2018 - so the Letterman series is rather unique in the Netflix universe as it has a rather anti-binge roll-out.

With a title like that, Letterman will need to bring on some truly top-notch guests - and he delivers. It will be his first talk show appearance since leaving the White House in January of past year.

Netflix announced the Letterman series in August.

Taking his usual late night hijinks in a more serious direction seems like a natural progression in Letterman's semi-retirement, as the 70-year-old comedian's material has grown more political and socially conscious in later years.

This is the first time Letterman has led a series in over two years.
