Video shows Georgia firefighter catch child dropped from blaze

Captain Stroup can then be seen carrying the crying child away from the burning building, before collapsing onto his knees.

A firefighter has been caught on camera catching a child dropped by their parent as they attempted to flee from their third-storey balcony amid a fierce blaze.

Rescue crews rescued 12 people, including eight children, according to WFAA-TV.

The fire on January 3 left a dozen people with minor injuries, mostly related to smoke inhalation, said DeKalb County Fire Rescue Capt. Eric Jackson. "We had a couple firefighters catching babies, so it was just really incredible".

Earlier this month, parents trapped in a burning apartment building in DeKalb County, Georgia, were forced to throw their children three stories to the ground.

Captain Peckrul had been making her way up the ladder to the balcony to assist with the rescue when she was unexpectedly thrown a little baby boy.

As frantic screams are heard, the footage shows a father dropping his 5-year-old child from the third-floor balcony.

"I got halfway up there and here comes a baby into my arms", she said. "Lord, let me catch this baby, '" she told Fox5 Atlanta. One of the firefighters involved in the rescue was also injured but is recovering.

The fire took place in DeKalb County outside Atlanta.

While the firefighters of Decatur had originally planned on climbing up the ladders and helping to escort the family down, the fire was spreading rapidly.
