Air New Zealand's Alexa skill will initially be available in New Zealand and Australia but the airline will look to roll it out to additional markets as well as add further skills in the future. However, the retailer is offering a 90-day free trial of Amazon Music Unlimited for people who will purchase Echo devices.
In addition to receiving the Echos for the first time, New Zealand and Australia-based Amazon customers will also gain access to the Amazon Music Unlimited music streaming service on February 1. It has some competition from Google, with the Google Assistant-powered Home launching in Australia previous year.
Aussies can ask Alexa to check the weather, the traffic and sports scores, as well as to play music, or set music alarms and timers. But when linked to other smart gadgets it can be transformed into the central hub of your smart home, allowing you to control nearly anything in your house via voice command. It will also be available at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Telstra and Myer. For reference, only 40 percent of households had even one connected device in 2016. But if you've got a speaker to connect it to, it's a very affordable entry point, and an otherwise fully featured smart speaker.
The smaller, rounder brother to the Echo Show has been available in the United States for a while now, and now it's coming to virtual shopping baskets in the UK (likely before other European countries) ahead of a January 24, 2018 release.
Amazon may only recently have launched (properly) into Australia, but that's not all, with the company quietly announcing overnight that it's bringing the Echo family of smart devices to Australia from. well. today.
The Echo Plus does everything the Echo can but comes packing a smart home hub that makes connecting to your smart home devices easy. The company's also offering up a limited time deal, discounting all three by $30 AUD.
