Ferrell opened by saying that the Oval Office he was speaking from was actually just a set in his basement in Texas that he built so he could pretend to still be president from time to time.
The self-deprecating impression was as good as ever as we remembered that -while Bush may seem tame compared to what the current administration is putting the nation through - there were plenty of reasons to criticize him while he was in office.
There's never a shortage of things for Saturday Night Live to talk about in its cold open, as there's never a shortage of things that Donald Trump or someone close to him has done that deserves trolling. He is now the Editor-in-Chief of Campus Sports.
"The point is, I'm suddenly I'm popular AF". At this rate, I might even end up on Mount Rushmore. Bush said that Trump came into the White House "and suddenly I'm looking pretty sweet by comparison". He was to Bush, what Alex Baldwin is today to Trump. A common thought among those who hate Trump is that even Bush wasn't this bad - but Ferrell was here to remind us that while Bush wasn't as soulless as Trump he was hardly a good president.
During the eight years that George W. Bush was president, the United States economy imploded during the #great recession and the country found itself in two wars, one in Afghanistan and another in Iraq. "And a lot of people are sayin" "man, I wish George W. Bush was still our president right about now.' So I just wanted to address my fellow Americans last night and remind you guys... that I was really bad", he said to applause and cheers. "We both won the election despite losing the popular vote".
We missed you, George.I mean Will, Will, definitely Will! But back in my day we didn't let Russian Federation rig the election. "We used the Supreme Court like Americans".
