Outlets, bus torched in contemporary Kasganj violence; 49 held

Republic Day celebrations were marred by three low-intensity explosions in Assam and clashes and curfew in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj, where one person was killed in violence.

Meanwhile, SP of PTC Meerut, Piyush Srivastava will be the new SP of Kasganj. "During their regimes, FIRs were not registered but our government will ensure an unbiased probe", he said.

According to an official statement issued by the UP Police, 112 persons have been arrested and 81 preventive arrests have been made in connection with the Kasganj violence that started on Friday following a Trianga Yatra. Clashes allegedly began after the men in bike rally raised provocative slogans, taunting Muslims for refusing to chant Vande Mataram. Gunshots were soon fired, wounding two people, one of whom later died in the hospital.

The strong words from Naik came days after Vice President Venkaiah Naidu advised the Adityanath government to improve the law and order in the state.UP government spokesman and senior cabinet minister Sidharth Nath Singh, however, said that there were reports that shops were opening now. "And this is the reason why the situation is absolutely under control", DGP O P Singh said in Lucknow. We do not want the resignation of chief minister. On Sunday, it's more than 48 hours, Kasganj experienced its first communal violence in living memory, the town remained under strict vigil. Chandan's father has accepted the cheque from the District Magistrate.

A law which prevents gatherings of more than four people in a single area has also been imposed in the district in a bid to prevent further violence. Earlier, the family Chandan was holding a "dharna" demanding action against the people who were responsible for the killing of boy besides seeking Rs 50 lakh as compensation. Drone cameras have also been deployed for aerial surveillance to monitor the strife-torn district. "The truth will come out only when an independent judicial investigation is conducted by a sitting High Court judge", Mr. Tiwari said.
