Manchester City 'make final bid for Riyad Mahrez'

Leicester is now attempting to hold on to the seventh-place spot in the Premier League, which is the final qualification spot for the Europa League.

Manchester City have made a final cash-plus-player offer for Riyad Mahrez worth an estimated £65m, according to Sky sources.

It is claimed the Foxes are demanding closer to £90m to put Man City off the scent of their star man.

But more talks are expected on Wednesday, with Leicester's stance likely to be hardened by Mahrez's latest transfer request. Victory over the Toffees would take them to within five points of the Gunners and a potential return to European competition.

"The fans go there for the players and when they can play it's much better for everyone". He has scored 46 goals and set up 50 in 229 appearances in France.

It is unlikely Leicester would be willing to sell Mahrez even if City comes back with an even higher bid. "I am 95-99 per cent that nothing is going happen".

They did a complete a £57m club record move for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte, 23, during the transfer window but insist they are prepared to walk away if deals are too expensive.

It is peculiar that Mahrez is still playing for Leicester despite his fantastic form in recent seasons.

He'd also be eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League and has experience of the competition after helping the Foxes reach the quarter-final previous year. By my calculations, Leicester would have made £59.8m profit on the player they bought from Le Havre for £350,000. Football journalist Daniel Storey could have the answer why, and it comes down to Mahrez's agent.

"Of course I want to win more trophies", he said. If Mahrez's agent was Mino Raiola would he still be at Leicester City now?

It was the second disappointment for Mahrez on transfer deadline day.

"I understand the criticism, but we have spent £300m on six players".
