Pizza for breakfast, anyone? Nutritionist says it's 'healthier' than most cereals

If you'd rather reach for a piece of pizza than a bowl of cereal in the morning, one dietician says go ahead.

Apparently tucking into a cheesy slice of pizza for brekkie could actually be better for you than pouring out a bowl of cereal.

What's more, pizza has less sugar than most breakfast staples. But many pizzas contain healthy vegetables as well as meats, and recent research suggests that cheese has some previously unknown health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties and a boost to the immune system. One piece of pizza can really fill you up while many of us hit the cereal box pretty hard, which can be unsafe.

For example, sugary cereal like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch comes with 130 calorie and 9 gr of sugar per serving.

According to a Consumer Reports analysis, people in North America eat enormous cereal servings.

The magazine conducted their own experiment to see how much cereal people ate and discovered many are shocked by what constitutes a serving size.

Pizza lovers, rejoice! According to a nutritionist, eating pizza for breakfast may actually be healthier compared to the usual bowl of cereal.

A large, hand-tossed crust slice of cheese from Pizza Hut would set you back 290 calories and 11 grams of fat but offer up 13 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber, according to the chain's website.

Plus, she points out that many pizzas aren't exactly lacking in sugar.

While pizza can be a balanced diet by using healthier ingredients, most packaged cereals are high in calories due to artificial sweetners and colours.

"Pizza Hut in particular has 8 grams of sugar per serving in their marinara sauce and 490 mg sodium", she wrote. You can even go a step further and make it breakfasty by adding some avocado and an egg.
