Patriots Player Likes Critical Post Of Bill Belichick

If the defense looked somewhat capable in Super Bowl LII maybe Bill Belichick would look like a genius. "I feel for [Butler]".

Cornerback Malcolm Butler, the hero of the Patriots Super Bowl 49 against the Seattle Seahawks, was nowhere to be found. Butler dressed for the game but did not play a single snap defensively, only appearing a handful of times on special teams. I had nothing but great things to say about the organization.

It was Eric Rowe replacing the former Pro Bowler alongside Stephon Gilmore and Johson Bademosi at corner, and this is where the bad decision by Belichick begins.

Butler, who was sick all week but did not think that would affect his status, tried to stay silent after the game, telling an reporter "I ain't got nothing to say", but ultimately could not keep his true feelings to himself much longer.

"I respect Malcolm's competitiveness and I am sure that he felt like he could have helped", Belichick said Monday after Philly carved up the Patriots for 373 passing yards and four touchdowns. I guess I wasn't playing good if they didn't feel comfortable.

Moreover, it's hard to imagine why Butler, who played over 97 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps this season, suddenly had absolutely no part to play schematically in the biggest game of the year. "I don't know. But I could have changed that game".

One of the biggest stories from Sunday's Super Bowl was about a player that wasn't even on the field for the game.

Belichick was asked Monday morning to explain why Butler was on the field for just one play in Sunday's game. "I'm just anxious about the Eagles", he told's Ian Rapoport before Sunday's big game. Coach Belichick told the media that he wanted to give his team, "the best chance to win", obviously feeling that Malcolm Butler who finished the regular season with 55 tackles and 2 interceptions was not up to the task of defending the Eagles receivers.

Belichick also answered no when asked if Butler had been benched for disciplinary reasons.

Only Rice (eight) and Emmitt Smith (five) have more Super Bowl touchdowns than White.

The Patriots and Eagles did in fact combine for the most yards in a Super Bowl game last night. Especially considering the sub-par year Butler had in 2017, the Patriots were likely to not come close to offering the money he was seeking.

Butler was caught on camera during the national anthem.
