These Are the New Emoji Set to Arrive in 2018

Previewed at the end of past year, Emoji 11.0 has now been finalized and includes 157 new emoji, bringing the total number of official emoji to 2,832. The finalized list included a softball, a pirate flag, a "woozy face", and, in a major win for Sen.

Is there an emoji missing that you want? Android release dates are a little less predictable, but before the end of the year is a good bet.

For the first time, Emoji 11.0 includes options for hair color and style on different emoji.

The lobster and other new emojis will start showing up on mobile phones in August or September, according to the Unicode blog post.

The Unicode Consortium, an organization tasked with approving the standardization of digital characters and symbols, released 157 new emoji Wednesday.

New for 2018 are modifiers that allow vendors to give man and woman emoji various hairstyles, from curly-haired to red-haired to bald.

The Unicode Consortium is bumping emoji version enumeration to match that of the current Unicode Standard, meaning the upcoming update will be called Emoji 11.0 instead of Emoji 6.0. The Unicode Consortium has sample images for all those emoji on its website, or you can (and should) check out Emojipedia's video detailing them all above.
