New Venom Teaser Trailer Casts Tom Hardy As Venom

With the merger between Disney and Sony Pictures, Spider-Man might have moved base to Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Sony is has gone ahead with their plans to expand their own Marvel universe.

Tom Hardy stars in Sony's Spider-Man spinoff "Venom". If you look closely you can even see the veins of his neck turning black, Venom's signature color.

Well, that certainly was...something. Nope and nope. I know it's a teaser trailer, but we should at least get excited for something or given some semblance to a plot. Even just a tiny frame of Venom would have sufficed. As with real-world symbiotes, it requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. It is said that the film will be a part of Tom Holland's Spider-Man universe - it has also been rumoured that Holland might make a cameo in the film. In the comic, Brock struck a deal with Spider-Man that ensured the characters would leave each other alone, then he hightailed it to San Francisco. That's a fascinating premise, and one that often gets overshadowed by what Venom looks like in the black costume. Interestingly enough, it's never really clarified in-teaser that the V stands for Venom (unless you count the poster at the end). Whether or not Spider-Man - who played a significant role in both stories - will make an appearance remains unclear. Instead, we get a glorified sizzle reel that looks like someone dropped a movie in a blender, picked out a few random frames, taped them together and called it a trailer. Now it's Hardy's turn to give it a go.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom astarsTom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze and Woody Harrelson. Here's the synopsis, which contains the phrase "badass", so you know this film means business.

Tom Hardy's Venom looks wonderful! Action sequences are all fun and good, but the trailer's most effective moment was in that chamber when Hardy explodes in a screaming fit of rage from nowhere. It's uncertain how true that rumor is, but how about we just calm down for a moment.
