Richardson police officer shot on duty, gunman at large

The shooting was reported at about 8 pm local time.

It's believed McCall shot Gamez but the investigation is continuing, Plano police spokesman David Tilley said. The injured officer was taken to Medical City Plano. When they arrive, the suspect fires shots and hits one officer in the neck.

Police responded to a disturbance call Wednesday at an apartment complex in the Dallas suburb.

The alleged gunman barricaded himself inside an apartment unit, firing a weapon at random.

One officer suffered minor injuries because of the flying glass.

A police officer has been shot in Richardson while on a call.

The shooting was the first on-duty officer death in the state this year, but the scene was far too reminiscent of deadly police shootings across North Texas in recent years. A standoff ensued with a suspect, who was identified by authorities as Brandon De McCall, 26.

"Please pray for us!"

Governor Greg Abbott took to Twitter after being briefed on the situation in Richardson: The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office also offered condolences on Twitter, saying it was praying for the Richardson Police Department.

"May God rest his soul".

They said as public safety employees they interact frequently with police officers so the loss feels very personal to them. Witnesses said McCall repeatedly shouted "I'm sorry" as he was being led away. Four Dallas police officers and a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer were killed, and several others were injured.
