South Africa Police Raid Home Of The Gupta

The Hawks confirmed on Thursday that Ajay Gupta, the eldest Gupta brother, is a fugitive on the run.

Business Day reported that a warrant of arrest has been issued for him, and that he has surrounded himself with bodyguards.

Bloemfontein-15/02/2018- Former Oakbay chief executive Nazeem Howa was one of the 8 suspects who appeared at Bloemfontein magistrate court in connection with charges of fraud and corruption, in the Vrede dairy farm project case.

"They're not flight risks, some of them presented themselves to the NPA and the Hawks, hence the prosecuting team did not oppose bail but they have set stringent bail conditions so that they don't evade justice".

It is no exaggeration to say that the Hawks' actions on Wednesday may have a seismic effect on the landscape of ANC politics.

South Africa reportedly has extradition agreements with 14 countries including China and India, but not Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the Guptas are said to have lived and worked for some time.

"We were expecting them to hand him over there is going to be a search party looking for Ajay". I am not speaking to anybody, I apologise.

Oldest brother Ajay was known to be in the county as recently as last week. Zuma and the Guptas have denied wrongdoing.

Kamal Vasram has remained in custody while the authorities check his particulars. "They will be charged with aiding and abetting a suspect".

The Free State case is related to a state-owned farm near the small town of Vrede. Further arrests are planned, he said, but he could not give numbers.

Sources close to the Guptas and with knowledge on the raids and their apparent looming arrests‚ said moves were under way to get some sort of deal signed.

A senior security cluster official told City Press that Thabethe was arrested on Wednesday morning, after a raid at his home in Bloemfontein earlier in the morning.

Two weeks ago, the Hawks raided the offices of Free State Premier Ace Magashule, who is also the ANC's secretary-general, as well as the provincial office of the Department of Agriculture.

One hundred black emerging farmers were promised five cows each as part of the empowerment scheme, but they never received them.

Three of the accused are government employees while one is a Gupta family member and the others are Gupta associates.

The #GuptaLeaks reports revealed past year that at least R30-million paid to the Guptas via the farm ended up funding the family's lavish Sun City wedding in 2013 - but this did not form part of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's probe.
