Prime Members Now Earn 5% Cash Back at Whole Foods

The company also added hundreds of Whole Foods items to Amazon Fresh, the home grocery delivery service launched some ten years back.

Likewise, it provides an incentive to Amazon Prime members to do their grocery shopping at Whole Foods Market, since they earn 5% cashback if they use the rewards credit card.

Cardmembers who are not eligible Prime members will earn 3 percent back at Whole Foods and, Amazon said in a statement. The new offer was announced Tuesday and is available right away, according to USA Today. Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express cardholders can earn 6% cash back on US supermarket purchases (up to $6,000 a year), which includes Whole Foods purchases. "We pointed out that until the acquisition of Whole Foods, these two areas were clear weaknesses for Amazon Fresh". Recently, Amazon rolled out same-day shipping from Whole Foods stores for Prime members in four markets.

Note that the rewards can be redeemed only at Amazon, which works well for frequent Amazon customers, but may be frustrating for shoppers who compare prices across multiple retailers.

After the acquisition previous year, Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke said that the company is planning to "make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market". Additionally, there is also a new Whole Foods online storefront on Amazon's websites.

Prime Now offers a narrower selection of groceries than AmazonFresh, but does so without a subscription fee, costing nothing for two-hour delivery and $7.99 for delivery within an hour, on orders of $35 or more.
