The BJP won 35 seats in Tripura's state legislature against the CPI (M)'s 16 seats, according to India's Election Commission. "Such young candidates successfully won people's confidence", he said.
The BJP's strong showing came as a surprise for many as the party did not even have a councillor in Tripura.
However, it forged an alliance with the BJP on the basis of a common minimum agenda and the saffron party made it clear that it was opposed to the demand for a separate state. But NPF leader and chief minister T.R. Zeliang said soon afterwards that the BJP-NPF alliance, too, was still on.
"So let us not lose perspective: there is no Modi wave here", he tweeted. BJP is following a risky game of destabilisation, subversion and usurpation of power in North East, unmindful of the stability, security, peace and progress.
BJP is now all set to form the government in the state with its pre-poll ally NDPP along with an independent candidate and the lone JD (U) MLA.
In Nagaland, the right-wing party and its allies took almost half the seats and are poised to form the next government with the support of independent legislators.
Moving on to Meghalaya, Surjewala said every discordant party that fought BJP and each other, "ideologically-politically-electorally", is sewn up to form the government at any cost - NPP+UDP+PDF+HSDP+BJP+Ind.
