The announcement of the game coincides with the big movie-premiere for "Tomb Raider" with Alicia Vikander, the game will release on PC, PS4, and the Xbox One. Camilla Luddington provided the voice and motion capture for the character in the game as well as its 2015 follow-up, Rise of the Tomb Raider.
And don't forget, the newest Tomb Raider movie, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, opens in theaters in today.
The jungle location and the Mayan structure we see is not something new to the Tomb Raider franchise.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be fully unveiled on April 27th, 2018. While it's far from confirmation, it suggests that the previously rumoured "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" branding is - at least in part - correct.
News of the release date leaked out earlier in the week, and apparently the trailer below has been showing up in cinemas over the last 24 hours, but at least now everything has been officially announced.
While Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was met with mostly negative reviews (it ranks at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes), it performed decently at the box office, making over $274 million worldwide. The solar eclipse glimpsed in the trailer with Lara standing atop the ruins of temples might indicate the "Shadow" theme of the game. The film has too-long a setup for her feistiness and her sadness at the seven-year absence of her father (see Wrinkle in Time for the consequences of leaving your child for a greater cause). They sort of work because the original games consciously cribbed so much from classic adventure movies, namely Indiana Jones, that an adaptation in the opposite direction is tough to get catastrophically wrong. It could suggest the location of the upcoming game, or it could be completely unrelated.
