The suspect, a nine-year-old boy, reportedly shot his 13-year-old sister in the head, causing her death.
It is unclear how the boy obtained the gun, though Sheriff Cecil Cantrell stated that the motive behind the incident stemmed from the girl refusing to give her brother a video game controller.
There's no information on what gun it was or how the boy came to access the loaded weapon, but the report says he fired a single shot which entered the girl's brain. The local sheriff announced that the teenager had died from the injuries in a Memphis hospital. I can't answer that.
It's not known yet what charges the 9-year-old could face. "I do know its a tragedy".
Sheriff Cantrell stated that this is all new ground for them and that they've never dealt with a kid shooting a kid at age nine.
The incident occurred over the weekend in rural Monroe County, Mississippi, as the children's mother was preparing lunch in the kitchen, the county sheriff said. "That's why I'm not too fast to say anything because there are juveniles involved".
One family members shared a group photo showing the girls' basketball team Tupelo Middle School, with a serious-looking Dijonae posing in her No 30 jersey with a ball in her hand. We want to make sure we're doing everything correctly.
