Lakers' Isaiah Thomas Having Hip Surgery, Team Interested In Summer Talks

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas will be out indefinitely due to hip surgery, which is not ideal timing before his free agency in July.

The Lakers announced Wednesday that Thomas will undergo a scope on his hip Thursday, which will require an "extended rehabilitation process".

After lasting just 15 games with the Cavaliers, Thomas was traded to the Lakers during last month's NBA Trade Deadline.

Despite the surgery, the Lakers are reportedly still interested in exploring a free agent deal with Thomas, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

In March of 2017, Isaiah Thomas was enjoying a second-team all-NBA season, beloved by the fan base of the squad for which he blossomed and headed for a massive new contract. He was traded last summer to Cleveland, which ended up trading him soon after he was healthy enough to begin playing again this season. "Him and Julius had a good connection going".

According to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks, the market is slated for a reset in 2019, where players like Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and LaMarcus Aldridge will become unrestricted free agents. "He was in here every day doing his thing". The Lakers will release a timetable following the surgery, but Thomas will obviously miss the remainder of the regular season, and his recovery will likely span several months. I loved the banter between him and (Kyle Kuzma) out there on the floor. Thomas averaged 15.6 points and 5.0 assists in 17 games with the Lakers. "He affected all the guys who played for us, the young guys, in a positive way".

Josh Hart sat out for the 14th straight game Wednesday because of a fractured left hand, but Walton said he could be available to play Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks at Staples Center.
