"I don't know when he and his group are going to feel like they are ready to go", Popovich told reporters.
Spurs staff has traveled to NY to meet with Leonard and stay abreast of his treatment and activity, sources said.
BC-BKN-Spurs-Leonard, 361Popovich, Spurs unsure when Leonard will be cleared to playSpurs coach Gregg Popovich said Kawhi Leonard is continuing his injury rehabilitation in NY with his own team of doctors, but is unsure when the star forward and "his group" will clear him to play. "If I knew, he'd be here". He also made an extended trip to NY earlier this year as he attempts to heal a troublesome right quadriceps that he hurt in October.
Leonard travelled to NY to continue rehabilitation on his lingering right quad injury and has his own team of doctors focused on getting him back on the court. "When he and his group feel he's ready, he'll be ready". He spent an extended period in NY prior to the February All-Star break.
Leonard, 26, is a two-time All-NBA first-team selection and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
The announcement comes after a reported player's only meeting to address Leonard's injury. He has been cleared by team doctors but has not felt 100 percent comfortable on the leg when attempting to play or practice. "It was a rehab for me for eight months". Kawhi Leonard returning this season seems like a pipe dream at this point - and it's pretty safe to assume that the Spurs will be without their best player for the postseason. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks this season.
Rose said that he expects Leonard to try to get as physically healthy as possible in time for the offseason and to enter a situation "that is going to make him happy" and that "it is not (going to be) in San Antonio".
Leonard's use of outside doctors reportedly irritated the Spurs and has prompted speculation regarding Leonard's long-term future with the club.
