Robert Griffin III, Ravens agree to 1-year deal

Though taking somewhat of a cautious approach, the Ravens signed Griffin to just a one-year deal. "We're always working to make our roster as good as it can be".

In his last season with the Cleveland Browns, Griffin suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 of the 2016 season.

After throwing 20 touchdowns on 3,200 passing yards along with seven rushing touchdowns in 15 starts as a rookie, injury has plagued Griffin on and off the field.

An ACL injury at the end of that rookie campaign portended the injury struggles to come for RGIII. Griffin was released by the Redskins in 2016 when Washington committed to Kirk Cousins as the starter.

But Griffin was the starting quarterback the last time the Browns recorded a win, on December 24, 2016.

When the Ravens brought in a couple free-agent wide receivers for workouts last week, Griffin came to the Under Armour Performance Center to throw to them and impressed coaches and scouts. "We felt like we needed a No. 2 quarterback", head coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday.

In fact, those five games for the Browns are his only National Football League experience over the last three seasons.

The Ravens are darn pleased with their new backup to quarterback Joe Flacco, however.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III was selected by the Washington Redskins at second overall in the 2012 draft expecting to be the long-term solution. I feel like we got a steal. "I felt like he really wanted to be a Raven".

Baltimore represents the next best chance for Griffin to re-establish a once-bright career that has been lost at sea since 2014.
