Take the flap over Mr. Pruitt's first-class air flights, as well as $120,000 for him and his security detail to visit Italy last summer for a G-7 meeting and $40,000 for a trip to Morocco. It also emerged that Pruitt was late with some of his rent payments for a room in that Capitol Hill condo. "You guys know that". 'I'll make that determination, ' Mr. Trump said.
But Trump just wasn't ready to let go of Pruitt.
"I think he's done a fantastic job at EPA".
Among Pruitt's supporters is Kentucky Gov.
At least three House Republicans - Reps.
Minoli is the second EPA ethics official to come to Pruitt's defense. These attacks are thrown at Pruitt not because of anything unethical he's done, but because he's a conservative who is undoing the Obama legacy of disastrous regulations that strangled the economy.
Rep. Elise Stefanik of NY on Thursday became the third House Republican to say Pruitt should go, joining a growing chorus of Democrats and environmentalists. But President Donald Trump hasn't called for the EPA chief's resignation. Pruitt also asked for additional security which included a bullet-proof vehicle and a 20-person security detail, according to EPA employees. Pruitt has also sat for a series of interviews with largely conservative news outlets to defend himself - though even supporters acknowledge he did himself no favors with a Fox News interview this week in which he seemed unable to fend off some of the allegations.
In the interview Wednesday, Pruitt implied he was not involved in those decisions. "I found out this yesterday and I corrected the action and we are in the process of finding out how it took place and correcting it", Pruitt told Fox News.
Questions surrounding Pruitt's public account of his management decisions have been sharpened by recent revelations about his unusual rental arrangement past year. A later memo released this week said the office did not have all the facts about the rental when it made its initial ruling, including reports that Mr. Pruitt's daughter, McKenna Pruitt, lived at the apartment when she was a White House intern. He paid $50 per night, according to the reports, and paid only for the nights he used the condo. Minoli described that as "a reasonable market value". In December 2017, the White House trumpeted presidential accomplishments from Trump's first year-a list dominated by handouts to the energy industry.
"No one other than the President has the authority to hire and fire members of his cabinet", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. "Pruitt must resign", Pelosi said in a statement, adding that he "has displayed a staggering ethical blindness".
