Fla. Governor Rick Scott Announces Senate Run Against Senator Bill Nelson

He called for enacting term limits in Congress and discussed how he was raised in low income housing by a mother and stepfather who worked multiple jobs.

Assuming he fends off other Republican challengers during an August primary, Scott will take on Nelson, who's held the seat since 2000.

"Washington is horribly dysfunctional. It's the last thing that we need in DC in more self-serving politicians", said Joy Friedman with the FL Democratic Party. We will change Washington.

"This is going to be a lot of fun", Mr. Scott, wearing his usual Navy baseball cap, said in an announcement on Facebook Live from Orlando before embarking on a statewide tour, the type that has become his signature over eight years as governor.

Bustamante, who was instrumental in helping Scott hone his Spanish language skills, died as she was transitioning from the Governor's Office to Scott's Senate campaign.

The approach made Scott one of the most unpopular governors in the nation, but that has changed in recent years as Scott has moderated his tone and his policy proposals - he backed Medicaid expansion at one point and has pushed for more environmental spending - while making outreach efforts to a broader spectrum of voters, particularly Hispanics. Scott wrote an op-ed in support of Trump while Sen. "There could be a counter wave of Trump supporters, it is not as likely but then again, they weren't expected to show up in 2016".

The two-term Republican will face off against three-term Democrat Bill Nelson in what could be one of the most competitive Senate races.

I've always run every race like there's no tomorrow -regardless of my opponent.

Scott spurned the "naysayers" who he said will tell him "you can't fix Washington", and recalled hearing the same message when he was elected governor and when he began his career in business.

Nelson claimed that Scott had Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke come down to Florida and against Scott's request say "We're not going to drill in Southern Florida", when "in fact, that's still in their rule". Earlier this year, he was a no-show for the crucial vote on popular legislation to limit late-term abortion after five months of pregnancy. - Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

Governor Scott is now in the midst of a legal dispute, which seeks to see how much money is in his wife's blind trust. Trump has urged Scott to run.

Rick Scott launching his campaign from Orlando takes some gall -- 612 days passed between the shootings at Pulse and Parkland and Governor Scott did nothing to keep Floridians safe.
