Mourinho Blames Man United's Players For West Brom Defeat

The poor performance of United was lambasted in some quarters, though Oliver Kay of The Times was keen to acknowledge how well the Baggies acquitted themselves during the game.

Jose Mourinho has appeared to aim a dig at Manchester City by saying his Manchester United players celebrated their derby win in a "classy way". They won the title because they were the best team, because they won a great amount of points.

This may have been the first time United have been beaten at Old Trafford by a side other than City during Jose Mourinho's two-year reign but their lifeless performance was nothing new.

"I'll tell you what I told him after the match", Mourinho told reporters ahead of facing rock-bottom West Brom on Sunday, where an unlikely defeat would see City crowned champions.

Only time will tell how good this City team is, and whether they are the best we have ever seen in the Premier League, but one thing that can not be denied is that they are the best we have right now - and by some distance.

"I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy".

United's afternoon was symptomatic of their entire season.

16 - With their victory at Wembley - and United's loss to West Brom - City are 16 points clear at the top and chasing down the Premier League's largest title-winning margin of 18, which was set by the Red Devils in 1999-00. I know how to win and I believe in myself.

"I think we share one thing maybe, the hunger and desire to never be satisfied", said Kompany. You don't win titles with inconsistency.

"This is not a dynasty, it is one title we've won".

5 - City match the English top-flight record by claiming the title with five games to spare, equalling the efforts of United (1907-08 and 2000-01) and Everton (1984-85).

After sacking Alan Pardew at the start of the month, Darren Moore has been handed the West Brom until the end of the season.

Nemanja Matic panicked at the delivery of a Chris Brunt corner and he knocked the ball back inside to Rodriguez, who could not miss from three yards out.
