H1Z1 PS4 Open Beta Starts Next Month

The game's producer, Terrence Yee, is excited to bring the shooter to PS4: "H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem". For a chance to get in on the closed beta, simply sign up at the H1Z1 website. Additionally, considerations have been made around the control scheme since a controller is inherently different compared to a more dextrous keyboard and mouse.

As detailed on PlayStation Blog, the open beta for the free-to-play battle royale game will start on May 22.

"We've added a new take on in-match power progression that forces players to make strategic decisions if they want to win".

According to an announcement from the developers, the game has been streamlined for the console experience with "more guns, more vehicles, more weapons, a streamlined user interface, familiar console controls and faster matches". One of the most notable changes is the removal of the crafting system altogether, which is a core gameplay element of the original PC version.

Capitalizing on increased mobility, the PS4 edition takes H1Z1's signature fast-paced combat one step further by introducing new gameplay progression mechanics.

H1Z1 will be free to play on the PlayStation 4 and if it is anything like the PC version, it will have micro transactions for loot. Most notably, gas pacing has been changed to speed up the speed of play, and airdrops have been revamped to occur with a frequency that will encourage players to keep moving, and engaging in firefights. New to the PS4 version is the addition of six new weapons, including KH43, Marauder, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09, Scout Rifle and MK46. "Airdrops serve as the primary way to secure higher powered armor, which have been retooled to provide players with a health bonus". Special crates should be a big game changer as these rare drops "contain level 2 and level 3 weapons and gear" and will emit light radio noise when they're in close proximity.

Daybreak Games did confirm that the PS4 version of the game will run at 60fps but only on PS4 Pro systems.

From now until the open beta launch on May 22, you can pre-order a $30 bundle that comes with guaranteed cosmetic items and a dynamic PS4 theme.
