When Barkley graduated from Whitehall High School near Philadephia in 2015, he was rated the No. 2 overall prospect in the state by Rivals.com behind Central Valley defensive back Jordan Whitehead, who went to Pitt and also declared early for this year's draft.
"I watched it and saw all the other stuff and just put the clicker down and went to the next guy", Gettleman said. He's one of those guys that my mother could have scouted.
Barkley compiled over 5000 yards from scrimmage in his three years in Penn State.
Barkley, 21, is a combination of size, speed, athleticism and character rarely seen at running back.
A rookie has led the National Football League in rushing for the past two seasons.
Barkley was selected No. 2 overall by the New York Giants. The Giants were enamored by Barkley from the start of the process, and their offseason moves sent them in the direction of the draft's top running back.
The Giants didn't take long to make their selection once the Cleveland Browns took Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield at No. 1. "No matter when backs were drafted, they posted pretty similar numbers in terms of yards per carry and rushing Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average".
Check back for more on this developing story. It cost NY the No. 6 pick, two second-round selections this year and a second-rounder next year - a steep price to pay, but one general manager Mike Maccagnan was comfortable with.
Immediately looking at Saquon Barkley's measurables, you might fall into thinking that he's a power runner. Like Johnson, Barkley is a better perimeter player than tackle-grinding inside runner, but an ideal fit for today's game. Any of the next three teams - the Browns, Broncos or Colts - could snap up Barkley.
"WHEREAS, Penn State fans will not soon forget Barkley's contributions to the team and the university; therefore be it RESOLVED, that, in recognition of Saquon Barkley's accomplishments both on and off the field, the House of Representatives designate March 14, 2018, as "Saquon Barkley Day" in Pennsylvania", the resolution reads in part.
