One of California's top high schools is in Fresno, latest ranking shows

Ocean Springs College Readiness Index score of 33.3 was tops in MS and far exceeded that of all other Jackson County schools, with Pascagoula High School the next highest at 18.8.

The national publication released its annual rankings of the nation's high schools, which included national and state lists. It recognized 5,948 top-performing schools with numeric rankings, and awards of gold, silver or bronze, depending on their level of college readiness.

Michigan's International Academy of Macomb was named the top magnet school; High Technology High School in Lincroft, the best STEM school; and BASIS Scottsdale as the best charter school.

The Palm Beach County School District said in a statement that Suncoast has made teaching financial literacy a priority. Massachusetts, California and Maryland were first, second and third, respectively, with the highest percentage of eligible schools that received gold and silver medals. The school also has a graduation rate of 87 percent.

Robyn Ellis, director of Maeser, said the school is not focused on test scores. U.S. News ranked it 44th among Pennsylvania high schools.

At the top of the list were Walnut Hills High in Cincinnati, Wyoming High in Wyoming, Indian Hill High in Cincinnati, and Bexley High in Bexley. Of those, schools were ranked based both on student performance, and on how the schools meet the needs of students who are not college-bound.

The school's top rating came in 2012 when it was ranked 23 in the nation. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams.
