Angela Merkel, German Chancellor has expressed regret over the withdrawal of United State America from the Iran nuclear deal. It is noteworthy that the meeting was announced in advance without the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I believe it is wrong to unilaterally tear up the agreement, which was agreed on and which was unanimously approved by the UN Security Council", Merkel said. Merkel said the deal to curb Iran's nuclear program in return for the lifting of sanctions was far from flawless, but stressed it should not be "unilaterally terminated" since it had been approved by the UN Security Council.
The group will also then meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, the European External Action Service said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Europe's heavyweight economies took steps yesterday to safeguard their commercial and political interests in Iran, seeking to keep the nuclear deal with Tehran alive after Washington pulled out and said sanctions would follow.
Iran does not want "new tensions" in the Middle East, President Hassan Rouhani told German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, after Israel carried out strikes against what it called Iranian targets in Syria.
