Palestine Presses International Criminal Court for Immediate Action Against Israel

The Palestinians have repeatedly accused the US of siding with Israel, especially after the Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December, followed by last week's embassy move.

"Israel maintains, expands and protects the settlement regime by committing war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people", the statement added.

There were no injuries reported in the incident, which occurred near Kafr Ni'ma, west of Ramallah, the army said.

Israel, which came under intense worldwide scrutiny over its handling of violence on the border on Monday and Tuesday, has accused Hamas of using the several weeks of mass protests as a cover for launching terror attacks against Israeli troops and civilians.

A statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry called Tuesday's request "absurd", accusing the Palestinians of incitement and exploiting civilians as "human shields".

Al-Maliki, who arrived in The Netherlands yesterday, said the Palestinian Authority wanted an investigation to be opened "without delay".

The State of Palestine formally became a member of the ICC in April 2015, giving the court jurisdiction over crimes committed in the territory since June 13, 2014 - including the 2014 Israeli assault on Gaza.

Bensouda vowed last week that she was watching the unrest in Gaza closely and would "take any action warranted" to prosecute crimes.

Israel says it has investigated actions by its forces during the Gaza conflict, and says it has opened a number of investigations into the latest Gaza violence as well.

It was a rare show of unity between Shi'a-ruled Iran and Sunni-led Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern nations that have been feuding with Tehran over its involvement in the Syrian civil war, support for Huthi rebels in Yemen, and other matters.

Leading Western states regularly visited by Israeli officials have so far strictly resisted calls by human rights groups to apprehend the officials over the regime's atrocities against Palestinians.

Israel claims east Jerusalem as an inseparable part of its capital - though its annexation is not global recognized.

Over 600,000 Israelis now live in the West Bank and east Jerusalem - territories sought by the Palestinians as parts of their future state.

Dr Ashrawi added: "More than anything else, Israel's impunity must end, and it is time that the perpetrator of the crime (the occupier) is punished and not the victim (the occupied)". Israel captured both territories from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast war.

The IDF also confirmed that a mini-drone from Gaza had crossed over the border fence and fallen in Israeli territory overnight Tuesday.

Under global law it is illegal to transfer populations out of or into occupied territory.
