Bumblebee Is Back in Surprisingly Stirring Trailer For Transformers Spinoff

As you can tell from this first trailer, which feels more like "A Girl and Her Robot" story than any of Bay's high-octane, often incomprehensible action-packed smash-em-ups, and I'm here for it.

It seems Bumblebee isn't the only Transformer to be in his upcoming spin-off film. It also further evokes the film's nostalgic approach to the Transformers franchise.

Hailee Steinfeld stars as a teen who is befriended by Bumblebee, who appears in his original form of a Volkswagen Beetle.

For diehard fans of the Transformers franchise, the inclusion of Starscream is probably a very pleasant surprise. His dialogue plays in the background as we see Charlie Wilson meet Bumblebee at a junkyard in one of the Californian beach towns. Pamela Adlon, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, and Rachel Crow co-star in the film, he first since last year's "Transformers: The Last Knight". Travis Knight, of Kubo and Two Strings fame, directs, making this the first Transformers movie not to be directed by Michael Bay.

But there'll be a bit of a wait - it was initially reported that Bumblebee would be released in June this year, however, it's since been revealed that it'll hit cinemas on 21 December.

Fresh off announcing her leading role in an Emily Dickinson TV series and dropping her latest contribution to pop music, Hailee Steinfeld is returning to her movie roots.

It continues: "When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug".
