Kate Spade's sister says designer's death 'not unexpected by me'

Saffo said her sister had been concerned that any inpatient treatment would harm the Kate Spade brand.

Spade was born in Kansas City, MO, in 1962, and she attended the University of Kansas before transferring to Arizona State University.

Depression in addition to the breakdown of her marriage was reportedly weighing heavily on designer Kate Spade at the time of her suicide. "She was every bit the representation of that brand, and the fun of it all". We were together for 35 years.

As we reported, the handbag designer was found in her NY apartment on Tuesday after she reportedly hung herself. She was so sharp and quick on her feet.

He also paid tribute to her on Instagram, posting a shot of the two of them during Christmas. "She was effervescent. Hug your loved ones extra tight today". "It's an adornment, not an obsession".

"I am heartbroken about the news of Kate Spade". "It was a real shift", Mallis said.

"They seemed to be the flawless, happy family... They were affordable AND terrific AND fabulous".

Spade stepped away from the limelight after selling her company in 2007, but she recently mounted a comeback.

And the bags seemed to effortlessly appeal to a variety of women.

Bethenny Frankel took to Twitter to express her sadness.

"Oh my God", Spade gasps as she answers her door in pajamas and Roldan hands her a bouquet.

Media is gathered outside the apartment of fashion designer Kate Spade after she was found dead at age 55 on June 5, 2018 in NY.

Saffo, who said Spade's husband also helped to try to get his wife into treatment, eventually stopped trying after "numerous" attempts. "Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly heartbreaking time".

Ms. Spade said she felt handbags at that time were too complicated, and there was a dearth of bags with clean, simple shapes. "She was a visionary". "There were personal demons she was battling", he continued. "We honor all the beauty she brought into this world". "I still have mine". It makes it all the more striking, then, that Spade was able to break through, and do so with a brand that was unapologetically and exuberantly feminine.

He posted a different picture on Twitter, where he wrote, "Katy at my book signing". "I still have it". And over the years the company has expanded from handbags to clothing TO shoes, jewelry, fragrances, stationery, eyewear and baby products. "She never expected it-nor was she properly prepared for it". "I love sending them". The 55-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. In 2016, they launched a new footwear and accessories brand called Frances Valentine, naming it after their daughter, who is now 13.

The couple moved to NY after college, where Ms. Spade worked several years at Mademoiselle magazine, before they started in 1993 their own handbag business.

Wilson, of InStyle, recalled often finding her in her store, helping shoppers.

Kate Spade left behind a note telling her daughter it wasn't her fault and to seek answers from her father, The Baltimore Sun reported, citing sources. "I found her to be just down to earth, a normal mom, talking about the trials and tribulations of raising a child and life in the city".

Separately, Saffo told CBS News that her sister suffered from bipolar disorder brought on by her "immense celebrity". "Nobody could have ever anticipated that the next day, this was the news that would be flashing on our phones", she said.

There may have been other factors too; celebrity news site TMZ reports that NY law enforcement officials believe Andrew Spade had asked for a divorce prior to Kate Spade's suicide. "The last person on earth you'd think would take her own life".
