Smith: LeBron Texted Kevin Durant About Playing In Los Angeles

Apparently, James has been texting Kevin Durant about the possibility of teaming up in Los Angeles.

Don't be surprised if some players sign a one-year deal and enter free agency again next summer, when more teams project to have cap space and the salary cap is expected to rise.

Is LeBron James set for a move to the Los Angeles Lakers?

It remains to be seen whether Lakers GM Rob Pelinka will be able to convince his Spurs counterpart, RC Buford, to part with the former Defensive Player of the Year and 2014 NBA Finals MVP. "They have denied that he is communicating with Kawhi Leonard". I don't know what Kevin Durant's response to it was.

James' contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers has expired and the ether is thick with rumors of where and with whom he will play next year.

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers shares a laugh with head coach Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs at the end of the game at AT&T Center on January 23, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.

"I'll tell you what I did hear is that behind the scenes, Kevin Durant was like, 'Why would I do that?" They are emphatically denying it.

Unloading picks is especially risky because George seems to be leaning towards Oklahoma City, and Chris Paul has remained hungry after falling one game short of the 2018 NBA Finals. I've got a couple sources that I've trusted for many years that have never let me down. It's believed that acquiring Leonard would cement James joining the Lakers, with the domino effect possibly looping George in as well.

All James, 33, did last season was average 27.5 points, 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds while playing all 82 regular-season games and making it all the way to the NBA Finals (after beating Irving's Celtics in seven games in the East finals, though Irving was injured and did not play). Particularly when taking into account how seamlessly Durant joined the Warriors and that they're looking on winning a third consecutive championship this season.

James has one of the most well-documented careers in National Basketball Association history, but a partnership with a young, 35-win Lakers team would be a venture into the unknown for both parties. We'll keep you posted.
