As popular as open borders might be in certain already deep blue congressional districts, it's likely to turn off voters who said very clearly in 2016 they want border security and enforcement of immigration and citizenship laws. He noted the agency's work to counter MS-13 gang members.
"To the great and fearless men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit".
Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., is one of three red-state Democrats who voted a year ago to confirm Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, and who Republicans hope will support this nominee. "We always stand proudly with the courageous heroes of ICE and our border patrol".
Bonin also told local CBS news channel before the rally that some of the detained parents are being held in ICE's downtown Los Angeles building. Philadelphia police clashed with demonstrators who've been camping out demanding the ICE office at 8th and Cherry be shut down. "Instead of targeting a single agency in a broken system, let's focus on comprehensive immigration reform that ensures ICE and other agencies are focused on truly securing our borders, not terrorizing communities and spending more time imprisoning families than criminals". Kamala Harris of California has expressed similar sentiments.

Cohen, who was holding a "No person is illegal" sign, said that agents weren't telling the neighbors what was going on.
Until this past weekend, immigration was largely a political problem for Republicans. Eight-four percent - a huge number - said that cities should be required to notify immigration authorities. And ICE goes in there, and sometimes they have to go in swinging. Conservative host Dana Loesch told Fox News that abolishing ICE without replacing it is "irresponsible" and "reckless governance from a party who should know better". The GOP was badly divided over Trump's policy to end deportation protection for DREAMers - immigrants in the country illegally who were brought to the USA when they were children - and his now-reversed practice of separating children from their parents at the border.
