Daniel Cormier claims UFC heavyweight championship with KO of Stipe Miocic

Lesnar didn't hesitate to get up and power his way through to Cormier, who he then roughly shoved backwards.

White confirmed that process is underway, which would make Lesnar eligible for a return to the Octagon as early as January of next year.

That's why, despite holding the UFC's light heavyweight championship, he moved up to challenge heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

"Listen to DC, there's a guy that I've know for an long time, he's a wrestler, he's an All-American, he's a former UFC champion".

After the fight, Cormier (who improved to 21-1) called out Lesnar and the big man was in the building.

After the bout, WWE superstar Brock Lesnar entered the Octagon and traded words with Cormier in a vulgar (and ridiculous) display.

Speculation has run rampant over Lesnar's future for much of this year, starting with Lesnar posing for photos next to White on the night of WWE Elimination Chamber 2018. Lesnar then proceeded to insult Francis Ngannou and Miocic before telling Cormier he's coming for the belt.

Cormier's weight jump was only the 3rd "Superfight" in UFC history, the first two were fights that shifted the MMA landscape dramatically: GSP vs BJ Penn in 2009, and Conor McGregor's most recent fight in the sport. Cormier capitalized with a hard right that sent Miocic to the mat. He reddened Miocic's face with punches, and the finishing sequence was reminiscent of combinations he threw the last time he fought at heavyweight, in 2013. He won the Strikeforce heavyweight title before leaving the division when he joined the UFC because he didn't want to fight Cain Velasquez, his training partner and the former UFC heavyweight champ.

"I was a heavyweight for a long time, and I left this division", Cormier said.

"I don't know where he's going to fight yet but he's back and that fight will happen."
