‘The Walking Dead’ season 9 sneak peek includes an OH city sign

The actor, also known for his role in Love Actually, was asked about his post-Walking Dead plans.

Lincoln confirmed the news Friday afternoon at the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel. Morton's casting confirms the Whisperers' arrival in Season 9 and also puts to rest the much-speculated question of who would play Alpha in the series. The first eight episodes of the Walking Dead spinoff's fourth season ran through June, and the action picks up again on August 12th as AMC begins airing the back half of the season. Oscar-nominated Morton's other credits include Sweet and Lowdown, In America, The Messenger, and Her among others.

"This will be my last season playing the part of Rick Grimes", Lincoln said to a chorus of wails from the fans in Hall H. "I mean, I'm speaking on behalf of Robert Kirkman, but it was sold to me by my agent that it was seen through the eyes of Rick and then it would turn into an ensemble". "The show is really going to a different place this year, so figuring out exactly how you communicate that to the audience that you're giving them this is the show that you love but we're doing something bigger and different with it this year". "This has been the most extraordinary, amazing, useful experience of my career".

Andrew Lincoln sounded quite emotional and honest while addressing the crowd.

"My relationship with Rick Grimes is far from over", he teased.

The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Austin Amelio, Tom Payne, Xander Berkeley, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

There are certainly some gnarly new walkers in the trailer, reminiscent of the early seasons of The Walking Dead.
