Liverpool's Joe Matip might have suffered 'small tear' in leg - Jurgen Klopp

Dortmund levelled in the 66th minute as Pulisic converted a penalty after being fouled by James Milner.

Jurgen Klopp (pictured) saw Christian Pulisic score a brace against his men (Anthony Devlin/PA).

Christian Pulisic starred in front of his adoring American crowd as Liverpool were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in their opening International Champions Cup fixture.

"But it looks like it's only a little tear".

"We will see, but we can not say anymore it now". Obviously we can not say more about this now, but that's of course the most negative thing about the day. It's not cool. Things like this can happen, but you don't want them to.

"Maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we will know more, but in this moment we only know that it was too painful for him to carry on".

He rattled in a second a minute before time, Liverpool left wondering how they'd lost the game as Pulisic struck into the corner to conclude a counter-attack, while there was still time for a third Dortmund goal as Pulisic's shot was spilt by Loris Karius into the path of Jacob Bruun Larsen to tap-in.

Liverpool took the lead against Dortmund three minutes after Matip was replaced by Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk producing a fine header.

Liverpool confirmed on their website that the muscle injury "is not considered to be a long-term concern" but the centre-back will miss the two remaining games in America.

Matip was side-lined during the run-in last season through a thigh injury, Klopp insisting it's not a reoccurrence of that problem but unable to confirm Matip will be fit for the Reds' season opener against West Ham. The game was very hard for both teams. He's a fantastic player, it's deserved people think highly of him, in Germany it's the same. Dortmund had exactly the same problems.

Klopp has strong links to Dortmund after managing the Bundesliga giants for seven years and although he is an admirer of Pulisic, who's scored 12 goals in 97 appearances for BVB, a move this summer will not be happening despite fresh rumours.

"We have to learn from it, that's how it is, and then we have to go again".
