Napoli president confirms offer for Man Utd star Darmian

Juventus seemed to be the club destined to sign the right back until de Laurentiis has revealed Napoli's interest.

Darmian has been a regular feature at full-back during pre-season with Antonio Valencia injured and summer signing Diogo Dalot also sidelined. "But [also] on our list of [desired] right-backs is [Benjamin] Heinrichs from Bayer Leverkusen".

"[Dries] Mertens will not leave, [Angel] Di Maria will not come and as for Balotelli I've been saying no for years".

The 28-year-old, who has struggled to cement a starting place since joining from Torino in 2015, then confirmed his intention to seek a new club.

The Old Trafford side have been heavily linked with Toby Alderweireld but it is thought Tottenham's valuation of the Belgium star is far more than United are willing to pay.

The Italy worldwide started United's 4-1 defeat by Liverpool on Saturday but is behind Antonio Valencia in the pecking order and wants a move as he seeks more playing time. That's been made pretty categorical to me in the last couple of days so you know that plays into the thinking of Leicester a little bit.

"It was an honour for me to be captain and I'm very happy", said Darmian.

"We will see what happens". "If I stay I stay and I'll do what I did up until now".

He said: "As far as negotiations go, I am only (focused) on the World Cup".

"It has been a hard decision [to want to leave]".

"To play for probably the best club in the world is a good thing and for me it's an honour to play here and play for Manchester United, but we have to take decisions in our life and this is my decision".
