Zinedine Zidane keeping tabs on Man United role

The 46 year old is now out of work and according to various reports; he is setting his sights on the Premier League.

Paul Pogba wants to leave Manchester United for Barcelona even if his fractured relationship with manager Jose Mourinho can be mended.

After facing Brighton, United take on Totenham at Old Trafford on August 27 before a trip to Burnley on September 1.

United were never keen on signing Toby Alderweireld as their scouting reports indicated he operates better in a three-man defence, but Tottenham were interested in taking some United players to north London. After all, how many trophies have Jurgen Klopp's hugs won?

United finished 19 points behind champions and cross-town rivals Manchester City in the league last term and Scholes, who played more than 700 matches for United, said the club are lagging behind City and a strengthened Liverpool this season and does not see Mourinho's side eclipsing their rivals.

Pogba, 25, who originally left Sir Alex Ferguson's United for Juve in 2012, has told Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and his team-mates that he wants to go again.

Pogba had fallen out of favour in the second half of last season and briefly found himself dropped to the bench by Mourinho.

Mourinho was clearly referencing Pogba's decision to leave United in 2012 for Juventus when he felt he wasn't given enough playing time by Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, the United hierarchy were prepared to pay £100m to land Raphael Varane had Real Madrid been willing to sell.

The opportunity to come in and manage a club such as Manchester United back to former glories is one which appeals to Zidane. For me, he's one of the most important players, probably in the Premier League - he's got everything.
