Arizona Cardinals, Larry Fitzgerald, Bruce Arians pay tribute to John McCain

McCain will be just the third person to lie in state in the Rotunda of the Arizona statehouse over the past 40 years, organizers of the ceremony said.

He died Saturday of an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The Life of Sen. About 1,000 seats were made available to the public. She says Arizona lost a champion for the military.

"You know Richard Russell was ... from the South, and I'm sure not flawless like George Washington and everybody else in his days, but he was a well-respected senator", said Republican Sen.

The 44-year-old says she's been following the longtime senator since she was 18 and always voted for him despite her party affiliation.

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who co-sponsored the measure, said he does "not want to get out ahead" before he talks to McCain's family.

Joe Freedman, pictured at left in a decades-old photo with John McCain, said that McCain was "completely down to earth".

Arizona military - veterans and current personnel - were among the early arrivals Wednesday at the State Capitol as the first of two days of memorials for Sen.

Separately, Wilson told CNN's Don Lemon on Monday that Trump acted like a "petulant child" when he re-raised the American flag over the White House less than 48 hours after McCain's passing and also waited until Monday to issue a more detailed statement recognizing the Republican senator's many contributions.

On Tuesday, the South Carolina Republican said he would carry on McCain's legacy by lobbying President Donald Trump to keep US troops in Afghanistan, apparently in perpetuity, according to The Washington Examiner. "But his spirit, service and fierce independence ultimately helped shape the state with which he became synonymous".

The president should know a withdrawal from the nearly 17-year-old war would "blow up" in his face, said Graham, who spoke to reporters about McCain following an emotional floor speech on the Arizona Republican's death. "America is stronger for his fierce defense of our values". We can be proud, he was our Senator. His wife, sons, and daughter, The View host Meghan McCain, were sitting front row as he was eulogized by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Former Senator Jon Kyl, a close family friend.

"Imagining Arizona without John McCain is like picturing Arizona without the Grand Canyon".

Yet it remains unclear who is ready to accept that mantle.

"We're in a new era now", Corker said Monday. "Privileged to have John McCain fighting for us".

Mr. Graham said Mr. McCain's last requests in their final conversations together were to give him a good send-off, to pass a new round of sanctions on Russian Federation, to renew work on an immigration deal and to keep dogging the Pentagon.

"It is time we recognize that as the times change, so do our heroes", Schumer said.

"I'm happy being here for him because he was for me when I was in Desert Storm and Desert Shield".

The Senator's funeral services later in the week will be high profile, with former presidents George Bush and Barack Obama delivering eulogies before he is buried in a private service at the United State Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland on Sunday. Musical choices include a recessional to "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.

From there, McCain will depart Arizona for the last time from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Another viewing will be at the US Capitol on Friday, with a final memorial service at the Washington National Cathedral.
