Tottenham delay move to new ground over 'safety issues'

The Raiders' home game against the Seattle Seahawks has been moved.

Opened in September 1899, the first match at the Lane was a 4-1 win over Notts County, with the final game being a 2-1 victory against Manchester United.

After hitting an obstacle late in the construction of their new stadium, Tottenham look set to stay at Wembley at least until November.

However, recent testing has found issues regarding the critical safety systems, meaning the aforementioned fixture as well as their subsequent home match against Cardiff City, which takes place 6 October, will be played at Wembley Stadium. Tottenham said recent testing had shown up the safety system issues, which meant test events that should have taken place on August 27 and September 1 can not be held.

"We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide", chairman Daniel Levy told the club website.

Five of Spurs' first seven matches were scheduled to played away from home.

A safety licence must be granted before matches can be staged and that will not happen before test events - originally slated for August 27 and September 1 but now postponed - take place. "We are reviewing the situation and planned timetable to rectify and re-test, after which we shall be in a better position to outline a revised timetable".

Tottenham Hotspur had been scheduled to play their first game at the new 62,000-capacity White Hart Lane venue on September 15 against Liverpool.

"The new stadium will be an awesome venue for the National Football League and we are very excited about our long-term partnership with Tottenham Hotspur".

The NFL won't say if the 10-year contract at Tottenham only officially starts when the stadium is ready to stage games. We shall continue to work with them towards making our future games at Spurs a huge success'.
