An episode of Joe Rogan's popular podcast released today seemed to show Musk smoking marijuana-something that's legal under California law but remains illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act.
Musk admitted on "The Joe Rogan Experience" that running a company like Tesla is intense and tricky, saying, "It's very hard to keep a vehicle company alive".
"We have been calling for a co-CEO or COO to assist to codifying the leadership structure and in so doing, the culture at Tesla", said James Albertine, an analyst at brokerage Consumer Edge.
Morton joined Tesla on August 6, one day before Musk's infamous tweet claiming that he had "funding secured" to take Tesla private. Soon after, Tesla shares dropped by six percent in early trading.
Whatever the case, giving a person like Elon Musk weed to discuss the probability of a simulation will undoubtedly lead to an interesting conversation.
The Thursday night interview in Los Angeles with Rogan culminated with the two men smoking a blunt.
Musk's representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
"I'm not a regular smoker of weed", Musk said.
In August, Musk told The New York Times he was exhausted from too much work and difficulty sleeping in an interview that sharpened questions about his mental stability.
Then, Musk appears to take a hit as Rogan continues explaining that there's tobacco and marijuana inside.
Friday was also slated to be the last day for Sarah O'Brien, Tesla's vice president of communications, whose departure was announced last month.
Regarding Tesla's chief accounting officer's departure, the executive released a statement in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.
In July, Musk raised eyebrows when he accused British diver Vern Unsworth - who aided in the rescue of 12 boys and their coach in Thailand cave this summer - of being a "pedo" or pedophile in a tweet.
Elon also indulged in certain recreational drugs during the podcast.
