Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom passes away in London

After the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from his seat past year, Kulsoom was elected to Lahore's NA-120 constituency in a bye-poll.

Expressing his grief over her death, Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a statement, that all facilities will be provided to the family and heirs of Kulsoom as per the law.

The Sharif family has chose to bring back her body to Pakistan from London. Born in 1950, her maternal grandfather, Ghulam Mohammad Baksh, better known by his ring name, "Gama Pehelwan" or "The Great Gama", was considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time in Pakistan.

They paid rich tribute to Kalsoom Nawaz's social and political services, she rendered during his life. "Our legal team will handle the matter", he said.

Talking to a private news channel, Ahsan said he tenders an apology to the Sharif family.

The Indian premier conveyed his deepest condolences to the Sharif family.

"We have just received a request from the family, and, God willing, we will be granting parole", Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told Reuters. "The government is ready to extend all our support within the legal boundaries", he said.

The government has chose to free Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar on parole so that they can attend the final rites of the former first lady on Friday.

Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif, 68, died after months in a coma.

Shortly after the news broke on media, condolence messages began pouring in.

Moreover, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director-general took to Twitter and said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bajwa also expressed grief over the demise of Kulsoom Nawaz.

"I pray to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to Begum Sahiba and strength to you and the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss", the letter read further.

Kulsoom Nawaz married Nawaz Sharif in 1971 and her husband was prime minister of Pakistan on three occasions - 1990-1993, 1997-1999 and 2013-2017.

She also served as the president of the PML-N from 1999 to 2002 after her husband's government was dismissed by former President Pervez Musharraf in a bloodless coup in October 1999, and almost all the Sharif men were jailed.
