Boateng called Mourinho to turn down Man United

Jerome Boateng says he phoned Jose Mourinho to personally explain his decision to reject the chance to join Manchester United over the summer.

The 25-year-old has endured putting up with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho over the past year but has made a decision to calm his nerves with the United boss.

Boateng, who has previously played for Manchester City, attracted interest from United and French champions Paris Saint-Germain during the transfer window, but chose to remain at Bayern.

Following winning the World Cup, many felt Pogba would kick on at Manchester United this season and play a key role in shaping them as genuine contenders for the Premier League title.

Boateng has now confirmed Man Utd's approach and revealed that he called Mourinho to thank him for trying to sign him.

France's Le 10Sport seem to think that the gears are already in motion for Zidane's move to Manchester, reporting that the 46-year-old has already held talks with United and wishes to bring Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann with him to the club.

"I had enquiries from Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, and I considered them", Boateng told Bild. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge.

Doucoure sent Pogba a congratulatory text message when France lifted the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer and admits he dreams of joining him in the national team.

"As a fan, honestly, part of me is that no one is bigger than the club and I am not interested in people who are looking left and right".

"Niko Kovac gave me the feeling that I am very important for him and the club".

However, it wasn't to be and Mourinho ended up empty handed as executive vice chairman Ed Woodward failed to land any of his defensive targets so United will have to wait until at least January to get their hands on a new centre-back.
