Trump orders declassification of Russian Federation probe documents

According to Sanders' statement, Trump also directed the Justice Department to publicly release in full the text messages of Comey, Ohr, former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and former FBI special agent Peter Strzok that are related to the Russian Federation investigation.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is not anxious about Paul Manafort implicating him in the Russian Federation election investigation - though he also declined to say whether he is considering a pardon for his former campaign chairman.

In the most recent case, prosecutors agreed to drop other charges stemming from his lobbying efforts for one-time Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych that predated his five-month tenure working for Trump's campaign in mid-2016 in exchange for him answering "fully, truthfully, completely and forthrightly" questions about "any and all matters" Mueller's team is investigating. Gaetz, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, added that he looks "forward to the forthcoming release of these documents, and reviewing them closely".

Additionally, the US President urged the release of text messages, sent or received by ex-FBI director James Comey, whom Trump fired past year.

His order covers about 20 pages of documents related to the FBI's June 2017 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act surveillance application for Page as well as all FBI reports of interviews related to the bureau's FISA application for Page and all of the bureau's reports related to the interview of senior Justice Department official Bruce Ohr.

"When the President issues such an order, it triggers a declassification review process that is conducted by various agencies within the intelligence community, in conjunction with the White House Counsel, to seek to ensure the safety of America's national security interests", the spokesperson said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Trump had accused him of bias against Republicans because McCabe's wife had accepted campaign contributions from the political action committee of then-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, during a failed state Senate run. Democrats weeks later released their own memo. The younger Trump said no such information was provided and President Trump has said he was unaware of the meeting at the time it was scheduled.

The American firebrand also told the DOJ to release reports about its interview with official Bruce Ohr.

They believe that the FISA court incorrectly allowed the surveillance on the basis of the material in the dossier. Congressional investigators have asked for 21 pages of the 412 pages of FISA applications and warrants on Page.

The other 18 pages appear to relate to information the government submitted that came from ex-British spy Christopher Steele before the presidential election.

The most recent target of his ire is Ohr, who communicated with the former British spy Christopher Steele in 2016, while Steele was putting together a dossier with allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

"Transparency wins. This is absolutely the right call from @POTUS", said Rep. Mark Meadows (R) of North Carolina, on Twitter.

"President Trump, in a clear abuse of power, has made a decision to intervene in a pending law enforcement investigation by ordering the selective release of materials he believes are helpful to his defense team and thinks will advance a false narrative", Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said in a statement that also raised concerns about the possibility that intelligence sources and methods could be compromised by the release ordered by Trump.
