The hearing is a monumental moment in the confirmation process of Kavanaugh, and could make or break his nomination, depending on what Ford says and how it is received.

Kavanaugh has vehemently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, including in an interview on Fox News on Monday in which he was asked about his sexual history.

"There was an earlier case form 27 years ago from which you might've thought we learned something", the senator said, referring to when Anita Hill accused then Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual misconduct.

According to Fox News' Ed Henry, a man came forward on Monday and said he believes Ford confused him with Kavanaugh.

"That's not possible, I don't know where they found these people", Guerry said.

Since Blasey Ford came forward with her accusations, two other women have also made public accusations against Kavanaugh.

Flake also debunked the partisan conspiracies on both Kavanaugh and Ford. "I'm going to see what's said".

Mr Kavanaugh has said he "categorically and unequivocally" denies the allegation. Swetnick, who recalled seeing Kavanaugh at multiple parties in the 1980s, said she herself was raped at a party "where Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh were present", she said in the statement.

The 11 Republican and 10 Democratic members of the panel will have five minutes each to question Ford and Kavanaugh in alternating turns.
