Alexis Sanchez left fuming with Jose Mourinho after being dropped

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted he has no complains over his players' attitudes ahead of the clash against Valencia.

As for Mourinho, Arnautovic added: "I have nothing to say". The following day Pogba was involved in a terse exchange with Mourinho on the training pitch, further evidence that the relationship between the pair is at breaking point. But Mourinho's patience with the other marquee signing of his time in charge at Old Trafford ran out this week.

His exclusion was in response to a tame start to the campaign, the left winger having provided just one assist and failing to find the net in his first five appearances.

Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard were not in the matchday squad as Mourinho brought in Scott McTominay to play alongside Chris Smalling and Lindelof in a back three, leaving United short of attacking flair.

"Look for how many months are people asking for (Anthony) Martial, Martial, Martial and saying how Alexis isn't playing well enough", said Mourinho justifying his decision.

The France global has had the vice-captaincy taken off him and many observers are claiming Mourinho may be suffering from the "third-season syndrome" that has dogged his career. Why else would he have kept on a player who lacked experience as a defender?

"Did you see their starting eleven?".

After that the Red Devils host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

Yet, that victory has proved a hollow and expensive one.

Ferdinand sounded like he was speaking from a position of knowledge, and these were certainly not the words a former player and huge fan of the club would normally proffer unless there was some substance.

The club's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, had publicly stated that he will not make knee-jerk decisions and Mourinho will not walk away from a £15million-a-year contract.
