UEFA Champions League Report: Manchester United v Valencia 02 October 2018

The poor start to the 2018/19 campaign comes in Mourinho's third season at Manchester United, a period where the Portuguese has achieved somewhat infamy in falling out with his club.

"I think it's a bad situation", he said on BT Sport.

"So, I prefer just to say that when last season we finished second and we finished runners-up in the FA Cup, we won our group in the Champions League".

Another game, another headache for Jose who is experiencing another low point in his managerial career with his Manchester United side having tasted no victory in their last three matches. I am sat here actually surprised he survived after Saturday, the performance was that bad.

Valencia haven't been good either, they had to wait till last Sunday to pick their first 3 points of the season and are now 3rd in Group H after losing to Juventus.

A total of just five shots on target being mustered between the two sides over the whole match underlined the lack of attacking quality, with United again unable to get the best out of Alexis Sanchez, restored to the starting line-up after being dropped at the weekend. [We knew] if we don't perform at least at an acceptable level, we would lose and defeat would leave us in a hard situation.

"The players, they tried, they raised the level of their effort, they raised the level of their intensity". We were the team that tried more, that had probably a couple of big chances to win, but I accept the result as a fair result.

'The teams that are really, really good offensively are the teams that are very, very solid from the back'.
