Pep Guardiola has outlined the importance of scoring at Anfield as his side prepare to take on Liverpool in one of the most highly anticipated Premier League matches of the season... However, Klopp's exciting progress with this team means that this group has to deal with more scrutiny.
The Blues' title defence faltered a year ago after they finished out of the top four last season.
Liverpool are looking for a sixth successive Anfield league victory over City for the time since 1972-1981, when they won 10 in a row.
Last season, the two North West sides met four times as City locked horns with the Reds in both the Premier League and the Champions League quarter-final. Both teams are now locked on 19 points after seven games, and it's a hard match to call, despite Jurgen Klopp's impeccable record against Pep Guardiola at Anfield.
"We beat City three times last season and not once after any of those games did we go into the dressing room and think "now we know how to beat them".
The Reds have only conceded two first-half goals in their past 13 Premier League matches - both at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. We still have to be a bit more passionate'.
Kevin De Bruyne is back in training, and will be given the chance to prove his fitness, as will Ilkay Gundogan and Benjamin Mendy.
"They are so strong", said Klopp. With Liverpool trading at [2.6], there is scope to back the hosts using the Draw No Bet market at [1.9]. This team together with the club, the money they have and this manager is exceptional.
Liverpool FC, though, have failed to win their last three games in all competitions to falter after an impressive start to the current campaign. I'll therefore go for Over 3.5 Goals at [2.6].
"Manchester City were so dominant last season because they had long spells where they were near their peak", Lawrenson told BBC Sport. He is certain, for instance, that, as a defender, he would prefer to face their talismanic forward than City's record goal scorer. Sergio has scored a lot of goals but there were periods when he didn't score.
But from my memory of winning the league myself with Liverpool, that does not matter - you just try to win games, regardless of how well you are playing.
